Netflix: Every New TV Show & Movie This Thanksgiving Weekend

If you’re too full of turkey to do anything but lie on the couch, then at least you can entertain yourself by watching Netflix‘s Thanksgiving weekend releases. Kurt Russell is ushering in the holiday season as Santa Claus in The Christmas Chronicles, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back to riff on more bad movies, and critically-acclaimed documentary film Jiro Dreams of Sushi takes a close look at one man’s love of preparing great food.

There’s also creepy doll horror movie Sabrina, new seasons of Frontier and Greenleaf, and the first two seasons of British comedy Sick Note, starring Rupert Grint and Lindsey Lohan. Frontier Season 3

Aquaman star Jason Momoa leads Frontier, a historical drama about an Irish-Native American fur-trapper and outlaw called Declan Harp. Set in late eighteenth century Canada, Frontier follows Declan as he fights to break the Hudson Bay Company’s hold over the fur trade. Season 3 of Frontier has now arrived on Netflix.

The Christmas Chronicles

The Christmas Chronicles is a seasonal comedy starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus, and one of the biggest Netflix movies of 2018. Two kids hatch a plan to try and capture the elusive gift-giver, but end up getting drawn into Santa’s mission to deliver presents to children everywhere in a single night.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return

The beloved low-budget sci-fi comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back for season 12, with Jonah Ray Rodrigues as its unlucky host, Jonah Heston. Forced to watch terrible B-movies on the Satellite of Love, Jonah stays sane by poking fun at the movies with a little help from his robot friends.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a 2011 documentary about Jiro Ono, one of the greatest sushi chefs in the world, who operates a high-end sushi restaurant out of a Tokyo subway station. The film was widely praised upon its release, and offers a fascinating look at a man at the top of his field.

Sabrina

If you’re still missing the Halloween season, there’s a new spooky film on Netflix this weekend to give you chills. Sabrina is an Indonesian horror about a possessed doll, and is a sequel to The Doll and The Doll 2 – though you can easily watch it on its own without missing much.

The Final Table

If Jiro Dreams of Sushi whetted your appetite, you can dive back into the world of fine food with The Final Table. 24 talented chefs from all around the world compete in teams of two in a series of challenges designed to test their culinary and communication skills.

Motown Magic

If you’re looking for something new to keep the kids entertained over the holidays, look no further than Motown Magic. The series follows socially awkward 8 year-old Ben, who lives in a fictional town called Motown and worries that he’s the only member of his family without a particular talent. However, he’s proven wrong after he discovers a magical paintbrush which can bring artwork to life.

Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia

The Daily Show host Trevor Noah takes to the stage in his new stand-up special Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia. The comedian covers topics like politics, food, music, family, and his own experiences as an immigrant from South Africa to America.

Greenleaf Season 3

Executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, Greenleaf is a drama about the scandalous secrets of a wealthy family that runs a megachurch in Memphis. If you haven’t seen the first two seasons, now is a good time to check it out, as season 3 is arriving on Netflix this Thanksgiving weekend.

Fugitiva

Brand new Netflix Original series Fugitiva hails from Spain, and follows a woman who is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her children from her abusive husband. Fugitiva was a huge hit in its home country, and season 1 is now available on Netflix.

Sick Note Season 1 & 2

Starring Harry Potter‘s Rupert Grint, British comedy series Sick Note is about a young man who is diagnosed with cancer and surprised at how much better everyone in his life treats him… only to later learn that he was misdiagnosed and he doesn’t have cancer at all. Not wanting to give up the “benefits” of the original diagnosis, he continues to pretend that he has cancer. The first two seasons are now available on Netflix, with Lindsay Lohan joining the cast in season 2.
