Supergirl Season 4 Reportedly Casting a Transgender Character

<img src="https://" /><p><a href=""><strong><em>Supergirl</em></strong></a> season 4 will introduce the show's first transgender character, according to a recent casting call issued by The CW. The <em>Supergirl</em> TV series, which started out on CBS before it moved to The CW in season 2, has long prided itself on its progressive and feminist outlook. In addition to being one of the still-rare superhero TV shows with a female protagonist, <em>Supergirl</em> features multiple female leads, an <a href="">openly gay character in Kara Danvers' adopted sister Alex</a>, and even a female U.S. president (who, yes, is secretly an alien). It's certainly among the more inclusive comic book adaptations out there, for those reasons.</p><p>At the same time, <em>Supergirl</em> has come under criticism in season 3 especially for its shortcomings in other departments. The show has only featured a handful of women of color and most of them have been either minor supporting characters (see M'gann M'orzz aka. Miss Martian) or one-note villains (see <a href="">the Worldkillers Purity and Pestilence</a>). Arrowverse co-creator Greg Berlanti has similarly expressed a desire to introduce trans characters to the franchise, but has yet to actually do so.
