Marvel Studios may not have a Hall H panel this year at next month’s San Diego Comic-Con, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be anything Marvel-related in the event’s premier venue. Sony’s forthcoming projects, Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse are expected to host their own presentations on the said iconic stage.
Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock – who inadvertently houses an alien symbiote. Supposed to kickoff Sony’s own live-action Spider-Man franchise, the off-shoot boasts a star-studded cast including Michelle Williams (Ann Weying), Riz Ahmed (Carlton Drake) and Woody Harrelson in a still unconfirmed role (rumor has it that he’s playing Carnage). Unfortunately, despite its potential to be something special, previews for the movie have yet to really sell the movie to fans. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, on the other hand, is a cool new animated film produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The movie puts Miles Morales at the forefront but will feature several other incarnations of the iconic Marvel superhero, hence the Spider-Verse subtitle.
iO9 reports that they have “it on good authority that Sony is likely to have a Hall H presence at Comic-Con this year,” specifically citing Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which are both scheduled to hit theaters later this year. The company may also include looks at Holmes and Watson (starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly), new thriller Searching, Alpha, Slender Man or Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween. That said, it would be an understatement to say that the biggest crowd draw will be the two Spider-Man-related projects.
That means that an appearance from Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and the rest of the cast of the Ruben Fleischer-directed flick are most likely in the cards for the Venom panel, as well as the reveal of brand new footage from the movie. The presentation will be a pivotal part of the film’s marketing especially since not everyone is still sold on its narrative that reportedly won’t tie-in with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man – although a cameo has been rumored.
As for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a Comic-Con presence has been confirmed since Peter Parker basically announced it in the movie’s latest trailer. Like he mentioned, whatever presentation the Lord and Miller-produced film will be, an announcement of the full cast is expected – as well as the reveal of the other Spider-people that will pop out in the Miles Morales-centered movie. The previews have already confirmed Parker’s Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Gwen, but it won’t be surprising if they throw more of other incarnations of the iconic Marvel hero (like Spider-Ham) into the mix considering its multi-verse concept.
